I am sorry, but bitcoin mining is a ridiculous waste of electricity, no matter how the electricity is generated. Using landfill methane does not make any difference. This biogas could have been used for other electricity generation instead of using it to produce fake currency. Posting this on MCJ diminishes all that MCJ aims to accomplish.
Thanks for your feedback. At MCJ our guiding belief is that climate change requires working together like never before because systems problems require interdisciplinary points of view.
We thought this guest offered an interesting opportunity to discuss an alternative incentive structure for financing the capture of landfill emissions since connecting diffuse landfill sites to the grid has historically been prohibitively expensive. The guest argues that Bitcoin -- while it no doubt has a high energy consumption footprint -- has potential to serve as an infrastructure-less economic incentive to bootstrap the capture and utilization of this otherwise potent emitted methane and to then expand that footprint into other methane-powered uses. Our job isn't to judge the viability of solutions but to expose ideas to the community for feedback and discussion, which hopefully this very post is doing.
We intentionally bring guests on the pod -- including ones we disagree with -- with a wide range of perspectives to educate and foster constructive dialogue and our goal isn't to convert anyone to a specific worldview but to enable each listener to have a more informed worldview.
This is all part of our mission of powering collective innovation for climate solutions by breaking down silos and unleashing problem-solving capacity.

In any case, thank you for the feedback.
