Frost Methane Labs is mitigating the release of methane emissions in naturally occurring deposits found in places such as lakes and abandoned coal mines. Methane accounts for 16% of global warming GHGs and is 28x more heat-trapping than CO2. The company’s technology is used to identify and neutralize concentrated and continuous sources of methane by flaring it. The team has designed, built and deployed a remote monitoring system on a permafrost methane vent. Frost Methane Labs has identified to date 1.1 Gt of CO2e from only 3,000 unaddressed methane sources. The company’s revenue comes from selling its methane flaring via offsets.
CEO & Founder, Olya Irzak, walks me through Frost Methane Labs’ business and her motivation for starting the company. We dive into how carbon markets work and how to build a high-impact climate change company while still being profitable.
Enjoy the show!
